Selection procedure
There are several stages to the Leicester selection process:
- All applicants meeting the minimum criteria will have their applications reviewed and rated for factors such as relevant experience, academic credentials and their personal statement. Their references will also be reviewed.
- We will then invite 96 candidates to an Assessment Centre during Wednesday 15 April to Friday 24 April 2026 (weekdays only). We anticipate we will have returned to face to face assessment, but we might need to keep online if rooms are not available (we will know by the time we invite you to interview).
- The exact nature of the tasks is yet to be confirmed but usually consists of a combination of interview(s) and a written task.
- Applicants invited to the Assessment Centre will be provided with detailed information in advance of the day regarding what will happen and what is expected of them.
- Candidates are ranked by total score and offers made to the top candidates, with a reserve list employed for other high ranking candidates.
Due to the high number of applications, feedback cannot be provided to applicants who do not reach our Assessment Centre.
Feedback from the Assessment Centre is provided to those for whom we are unable to make offers to train. This includes those on the reserve list for whom a place does not become available. Feedback is not provided to those who start training with us in the autumn, and this includes those who are offered and accept places from the reserve list.
Equal opportunities
Please see

We do make use of equal opportunities data as part of selection when candidates are tied in other respects.
Contextual admissions
We are proud to have used Contextual recruitment data provided by applicants to make additional anonymised places available for the assessment centre since 2021 entry. This will continue to be the case for the 2026 intake as one of our initiatives to broaden representation within our profession.
Disability Confident / Applicants with disabilities
Our employing Trust, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, is a Disability Confident employer.
Due to the large number of applicants to the course we cannot guarantee interviews to those with disabilities meeting minimum criteria.
