Selection procedure

There are several stages to the Leicester selection process:

  • All applicants meeting the minimum criteria are invited to undertake online screening task/s. There is a usually a two week window for applicants to complete this
  • The top range of applicants on the online screening task will have their application forms further reviewed and rated for factors such as relevant experience, academic credentials and their personal statement. Their references will also be reviewed.
  • Approximately 70 candidates will be invited to an online Assessment Centre during the following dates: Monday 8 – Wednesday 10 April, and Monday 15 – Wednesday 17 April 2024 (dates inclusive). It is likely that this will be online but this is still to be confirmed
  • The exact nature of the tasks is yet to be confirmed but usually consists of a combination of interview(s) and a written task
  • Applicants invited to the Assessment Centre will be provided with detailed information in advance of the day regarding what will happen and what is expected of them.
  • Candidates are ranked by total score and offers made to the top candidates, with a reserve list employed for other high ranking candidates.

Due to the high number of applications, feedback cannot be provided to applicants who do not reach our Assessment Centre.

Feedback from the Assessment Centre is provided to those for whom we are unable to make offers to train. This includes those on the reserve list for whom a place does not become available. Feedback is not provided to those who start training with us in the autumn, and this includes those who are offered and accept places from the reserve list.

Equal opportunities

Please see

We do make use of equal opportunities data as part of selection when candidates are tied in other respects.

Contextual admissions

We have used Contextual recruitment data provided by applicants to make additional places available for application review and interview since 2021 entry.  This will continue to be the case for the 2023 intake.

Disability Confident / Applicants with disabilities

Our employing Trust, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, is a Disability Confident employer and applications from candidates with a declared disability and who meet our minimum screening criteria are considered in accordance with this scheme.
