  • Or have a recognised "conversion" degree, with a 2:1 or 1st class level in your conversion degree.
  • If you have a 2.2 class level degree in Psychology you will also need to have a pass or above (e.g. Merit/Distinction) at Masters level in a course relevant to clinical psychology.

Clinical

All trainees accepted onto the Programme need:

  • A minimum of 24 months full-time (12 months for self-funding applicants) clinical and/or research experience, obtained after graduation, in a field relevant to Clinical Psychology
  • Experience must demonstrate knowledge of psychological principles and ability to apply these
  • The exact nature of the experience may vary, but candidates need to demonstrate that their work experiences have allowed them to develop a clear understanding of the roles and abilities required of Clinical Psychologists, and that they have the potential to meet these demands. Candidates should be able to demonstrate some experience in applying psychological theory in a clinical setting, realism about the scope of psychological interventions, and an appreciation of the role of the Clinical Psychologist in the NHS and partner settings.

References / Statements of suitability

Your application must include two satisfactory Statements of Suitability. One of these must be written by a current/most recent line manager. You do not need to have a reference from a Clinical Psychologist, though it is important that the reference contains information relevant to your potential to train as a Clinical Psychologist.

The academic referee should be able to comment on your academic ability. Where possible they should be from an academic institution where you have studied and they should have direct experience of your academic performance. Alternatively, someone who has overseen your research experience in employment may also act as a referee.

In return, you can expect the programme team to meaningfully and sensitively utilise any information you provide regarding protected characteristics and contextual factors.

International applicants

Funding/Fee Status

Due to the funding arrangements for NHS places on the Programme, we cannot consider applications from international candidates who do not have settled status in the UK.

Candidates for NHS places must be acceptable to the National Health Service in an employed status, and must be eligible for home tuition fees status.

International candidates are eligible to apply to self-funding places.

English Language Ability

We encourage applications from candidates whose first language is not English, but we will need to be provided with evidence of an English language proficiency of IELTS level 8 (with no score below 7.5 in each test element: listening, reading, writing and speaking) or equivalent. This is only required for candidates when they do not have a degree or master’s level qualification in English.

Applicants must send evidence of their English language proficiency with their application. Failure to provide this evidence will mean that your application cannot be considered.

Please note: UK Visas and Immigration now only accept IELTS for English language proficiency tests. The University of Hertfordshire will only accept an IELTS test result, taken within the last two years.

Transcripts

All applicants applying with non-UK degrees should please note the requirements regarding degree transcripts, which should be translated into English where necessary.
