You must have GBC at time of application

Qualifications:

2:1 or higher psychology degree giving GBC  OR
2:1 or higher degree in another subject and completed conversion course giving GBC

2.2 considered if there is clear evidence on the Application of mitigating circumstances which impacted the grade

At time of application you must have at least 18 months full-time (or part-time equivalent) paid clinical work

Professional accreditation

  • This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • This course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • This course does not accredit prior experience and learning (APEL)

Approach and theories

  • All trainees are required to demonstrate competency in cognitive behavioural therapy

All trainees are required to demonstrate competency in at least one of the following: 

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or
  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy, or
  • Compassion Focussed Therapy, or
  • Positive Behavioural Support, or
  • Psychodynamic Therapy, or
  • Systemic therapy

Teaching and placement experiences are organised to facilitate the development of these competencies.

  • We have developed a CBT pathway that will undergo BABCP accreditation in 2026. Further information will be provided to successful applicants.
  • We are currently developing an AFT-accreditable Systemic Therapy pathway. Further information will be provided to successful applicants.

Placement locations

We are commissioned to provide placements for the South Yorkshire region so this includes Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster (and potentially also North Derbyshire). Trainees are expected to travel within this area.

Personal circumstances e.g. health conditions and carer responsibilities are taken into account as much as possible when allocating placements. However, please be aware that a trainee’s competency development is the main focus when allocating placements.
