Who can apply:
All applicants must have GBC
Qualifications:
A BPS-accredited undergraduate psychology degree awarded a 2.1 or higher; or a non-psychology undergraduate degree awarded a 2.1 or higher AND a completed accredited psychology conversion degree.
Undergraduate degrees awarded a 2.2 will be considered if there is clear evidence on the application form of mitigating circumstances which impacted on the degree grade.
For non-UK qualifications, the Selection Team will calculate the equivalence of the qualification to compare the grade to the UK undergraduate degree grading system.

Experience:
Eligible applicants must have experience of working in a paid clinical work role for at least 18 months full-time (or the equivalent in part-time roles) at the time of applying. Please see our Entry Requirements - Clinical section for details of what clinical roles are included in this criteria.
Residence:
You must have the right to work in the UK and have home fees status

Application:
Applicants who meet the initial shortlisting criteria are invited to undertake an online deductive reasoning test. Please see our website for further information about this test. We do not use timed tests during our interview process.

Disability:
We use Disability Confident processes. Five interview places are ring-fenced for applicants who applied under the Disability Confident Scheme who did not score in the top 120 applicants on the deductive reasoning test.

If the degree award date is not shown on the degree transcript or certificate for any qualifications funded by HEE/NHS England from 1 April 2022 onwards then please state the name of the HEE/NHS funded qualification and the award date in the Application Form section titled: “If there are any other factors and/or any further context that are relevant in assessing your application please give details”. And you may be asked to provide a document to support this e.g. if you are invited for interview

Professional accreditation
- This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)

Approach and theories
- All trainees are required to demonstrate competency in cognitive behavioural therapy
All trainees are required to demonstrate competency in at least one of the following:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or
- Cognitive Analytic Therapy, or
- Compassion Focussed Therapy, or
- Positive Behavioural Support, or
- Psychodynamic Therapy, or
- Systemic therapy
Teaching and placement experiences are organised to facilitate the development of these competencies.
- We have developed a CBT pathway that will undergo BABCP accreditation in 2026. Further information will be provided to successful applicants.
- We are currently developing an AFT-accreditable Systemic Therapy pathway. Further information will be provided to successful applicants.
Placement locations
We are commissioned to provide placements for the South Yorkshire region so this includes Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster (and potentially also North Derbyshire). Trainees are expected to travel within this area.
Personal circumstances e.g. health conditions and carer responsibilities are taken into account as much as possible when allocating placements. However, please be aware that a trainee’s competency development is the main focus when allocating placements.
