Overview

Who can apply:

We do not accept applicants who have not yet graduated.

You need to have obtained your degree and must ensure we have your transcript by 1st February 2027 in time for short-listing. If you have not been able to attach your transcript to your application, you must email it to us directly (using the Bangor DClinPsy email address) no later than the 1st February.

The North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme is not implementing the two-year rule unless you have commenced or completed your CAAPs training in South Wales. You will be required to have a 2-year gap between finishing your Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) funded training and starting clinical psychology training as set out in your contract, unless you are or have been a trainee on the South Wales CAAP training.

Please see the Bangor DClinPsy website Entry Requirements page for more information about the Bangor entry requirements.

Qualifications:

You need to be eligible for GBC (you do not need to be a member of the BPS) and have:

A 2:1 in your undergraduate and the average for your final year module's marks needs to be 60% or higher.

OR a BPS accredited ‘conversion’ degree, with a 2.1 or first class, and the average for all your modules marks needs to be 60% or higher. For a conversion course, all modules will be used to calculate this average.

OR a 2:2, with a completed PhD.

Please see the Bangor DClinPsy website Entry Requirements page for more information about the Bangor entry requirements.

Experience:

A total of at least one-year relevant paid experience is required in working with a clinical population, either via clinical work or in research. This can be made up of shorter and part-time posts, as long as they are paid roles working with a clinical population. This experience can be obtained in the UK or another country.

Please see the Bangor DClinPsy website Entry Requirements page for more information about the Bangor entry requirements.

Residence:

You need to be eligible for Home Fee status. We cannot accept applications from candidates who qualify for overseas fees.

We do not consider international applicants.

Please see the Bangor DClinPsy website Entry Requirements page for more information about the Bangor entry requirements.

Application:

We do not have any additional tests as part of short-listing.

We ask you to complete a timed written task as part of the interview process.

Disability:

The programme operates the Disability Confident scheme.

Please see the Bangor DClinPsy website Entry Requirements page for more information about the Bangor entry requirements.

Document requirements:

If you have completed a conversion degree, because your original psychology degree did not meet our minimum entry requirements, please ensure that you have attached a copy of the transcript of the conversion degree and get in touch with us (using the Bangor DClinPsy email address) to ensure we use the correct transcript.

Please make sure that your transcripts are uploaded correctly and that you can see them when you look at the downloaded PDF version of your application.

Please provide a document confirming your GBC status, plus:

  • Undergraduate degree TRANSCRIPT
  • Conversion course TRANSCRIPT (if completed)

Placements

  • All placements are located in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board which stretches from Wrexham to Pwllheli, and Holyhead to Dolgellau or in the northern parts of Powys Teaching Health Board, from Machynlleth to Llanidloes with Newtown being a main base.
  • Due to the challenges of public transport in rural areas and the extensive travel distances, having access to your own transport will be required.
  • Due to the above, trainees are expected to live within the North Wales / North Powys area. Permission to live outside these boundaries is at the discretion of the Programme Director and may only be granted when there are specific personal circumstances that mean moving is not possible. Trainees need to able to attend placement across all areas of North Wales and North Powys.
  • Health conditions and caring responsibilities are taken into account as much as possible when allocating placements. However, the geography of the area and placement pressures mean that it is not always possible to have a placement near to where you live.
  • Travel costs will be paid from a clinical base, which is agreed for the duration of the training.
  • Payment towards overnight accommodation during placement may also be available where this would be more cost-effective than daily travel.
