Placements

  • Most placements are located in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board which stretches from Wrexham to Pwllheli, and Holyhead to Dollgelau. Trainees may also be placed in the northern parts of Powys Teaching Health Board.
  • Due to the challenges of public transport in rural areas and the extensive travel distances, having access to your own transport will be required.
  • Due to the above, trainees are expected to live within the North Wales/ North Powys area. Permission to live outside these boundaries is at the discretion of the Programme Director and may be granted when there are specific personal circumstances that mean moving is not possible.  Trainees need to be willing and able to attend placement across all areas of North Wales.
  • Health conditions and carer responsibilities are taken into account as much as possible when allocating placements.
  • Travel costs will be paid from a clinical base, which is agreed for the duration of the training.
  • Payment for overnight accommodation, either during placement or academic teaching blocks, will be available where this would be more cost-effective than daily travel.
