Placement locations

The course is based at the University of Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, and placements cover a large geographical area across the whole of Staffordshire and Shropshire.  Trainees are employed by either Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust or North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust. Trainees are likely to have most clinical placements within their employing NHS Trust geographical area, although at times they should anticipate having to travel to placements within the other Trust area.

Some teams in which trainees attend placement do not allow for any remote working, some operate a hybrid model, and a small minority are entirely remote. Trainees are expected to attend placement activities in accordance with the placement service delivery model and standard practice. Trainees should therefore anticipate having to travel to their placement base most of the time. Travel requirements can be considerable at times, due to the large geographical area and use of community-based placements in both rural and urban areas.

Driving

The use of a car is preferable given limited public transport access in rural areas and the use of community-based placements. Trainees must be able to access placements across the region in an effective manner and some teams/services do not allow for any remote working.

Trainee’s individual health, disability and caring needs are considered as much as possible when allocating placements, however you are likely to have to travel some distance at times during training.

If you have a disability which directly impacts upon your ability to drive, you may be able to obtain funding for travel within work-based placements through the Access to Work scheme provided by the employer.
